Compass for Thoughts
Words swirl like sugar in a glass
with thoughts attached to each crystal
my head, this molecular mass,
the mind is feeling so distal
Try to pinpoint but ricochet
stars shooting in the milky way
hold on to one in disarray
only to have it slip away.
Is there a compass I could use
pointing directions up or down?
Unveiling which words I could choose,
perhaps an adjective or nown
I need to un-clutter this mind
discover some tangible words
to express my feelings defined
so I might be finally heard.

Wake Up!
The sun sets in the west
slipping into waters blue
Putting rest the journey of the day
what is not and what is true.
Spoken words left to brew.
The sun rises in the east
light peeps slowly through
Greeted with song of birds
refreshing memories of callow speech.
Mindless chatter of vacant words
The rise and set of the sun
a simple lesson learned young
Laws of nature –quite profound.
Yet
Lessons learned rebound
always seem to confound.
Language used without thought
how many times must this occur?
Always, consequences follow
outcome not learned – again tough to swallow.
Head perhaps just …hollow.
Mistakes in nature result harsh peril
unable to compete in life’s drama
Likewise to exist in a coma
unaware of natures sweet carol.
Might be imperil.
WAKE UP!

Choice
Acceptance –
A word with many faucets
a prism revealing colors.
Feelings of freedom, but stained by disbelief
like the betrayal of lovers.
Denial –
Word of repose?
Acceptance, scary when faced.
Confronted by fear with hearts torn,
pain when raced.
Longing for vision, yet turning gaze,
must be brave to see true.
“Let go Let God” – often the phrase
just let go is what I should do.
Yet the walls of denial ever so strong,
into a box and windows drawn.
Doors nor exits dare to belong
not to see truth, trust is gone.
Acceptance –
word of freedom?
A choice made every morning.
Shall the choice be denial? Remain hopeful,
therefore, ignoring the warning.
Struggle to achieve peace,
confused within one’s mind.
Complexity of decision – searching for relief.
Acceptance, a word I must find.

Hearts Come Tumblin’
Why is it when I hear your voice
all the vows and resolutions
to survive love and made by choice,
go out the door, all solutions?
Does the love have no boundaries
even when hearts are on the floor?
Hearts not produced in foundries
they are soft, supple to the core.
With tumbled hearts the walls are built
in order to protect and guard
a shattered heart that had rebuilt
from ashes and still remain scarred.
Why is it when I hear your voice
hurt and fear seem to disappear?
While damaged hearts seem to rejoice,
the mind remains scared and unclear.

Going to a Place
Going to a place I’ve never seen
Past are lessons life has taught
Future unknowing, the path so clean
Forward, towards a life only dreamt by thought.
Coming from a place I’ve never been
Fear and despair, tools needed, did not own
Blindly coursing my way, the road so thin
Trapped by love, then left alone.
This place, this time, a moment in rhyme
Head and heart, perfectly align
Looking both ways, then crossing so brave
One foot then the other, new path to pave.

I Heart Hockey
“I hesitate even to give voice to my problems;
it is not what is commonly known as my style.”
Envisioning stars upon kissing the ice,
Hockey is the game, been skating for a while.
“But you were kind enough to ask — and I
deeply and sincerely appreciate your concern.”
Need to stop this excessive ringing in my ear
requesting this to the doctors, expressing what I yearn.
“The tinkling of a glass in a restaurant
a child at play
a motorcyclist on the street
a lawnmower or even a bird
all can make sounds which are difficult to process.”
Alas, there has been some progress.
Blood on the ice flowed from my broad chiseled chin
simply sutured delicately by trained and sturdy hand.
One problem solved, restoring my bruised skin
Damn this excessive ringing! This I had not planned.
“I wish I could say your concern is no longer needed,
but, alas, the progress of the recovery has been glacial at best.
It is frustrating and it can be very depressing, for
I am normally one of the most positive people I know.”
For which everyone can attest!

Six Long Strings
Six long strings I strum
On this instrument of song
Finding chords which fit the numb
Words reveling feelings I long
What went wrong?
Voice wavering trying to reach
High notes drowned with feeling
What was it you were striving to teach
Whilst my heart you were stealing?
Left me kneeling.
Music is known to heal the soul
Chorus written to repeat
Lyrics sung from a heart’s hole
Strings vibrate with the beat
Song feels so damn incomplete.
Favorite songs drift from speakers
Dialed to a station of memorable tunes
Written by artists and lonely seekers
Tied to drifting balloons
Over heart’s desert dunes.
Songs repeat loudly in my head
Those I’ve written, some I’ve not
All seem to have a familiar thread
Floating notes with a similar plot
Love forever, so I thought.

Wondering
I want so much to love you
my heart is screaming so
My mind cautions beware
thoughts yelling, “WHOA”.
Looking at you I long
for days of memories past
When we were young at heart
living life and having a blast.
As the years wore on
and the distances grew
I watched in disbelief
for what was coming… I knew.
Unbalanced love emerged
breaking my heart you knew
Wounding just enough times
for me to say,”I’m through”.
Left wondering what you did
if you felt you needed to do
Breaking the bond that bound us
at one time made us two.
