old silent films of black and white.

When dialogue replaced by score;

the “Mighty Wurlitzer” delights.

 

The Maestro armed with paper photoplay;

piano, organ, and cue sheet.

Told us effects and moods to feel -

stage movie actors felt complete.

 

Composed original scores proudly sang,

strong epic music to enhance.

The lover’s build-up ‘till the kiss,

film’s end finality sweet embrace.

 

As Hollywood of silent era roars;

employment of musicians soars.

The “talkies” popularized film -

creating music by the scores!

A Light Breeze

Sings like the wind, the notes collide;

producing serenades above.

Adrift, sweet sounds are floating by -

melodic songs coo, like a dove.

 

Swirling veil entwined with the breeze,

silk white dress embracing her form.

Dances freely beneath the trees,

as soulful moonlight keeps her warm.

 

Spirit so free, no thoughts to grieve

harmony - deep within her heart.

Radiant glow – midsummer’s eve;

a vision of exquisite art.

 

Beauteous angel – beacon light,

safe passage on this twisted road.

Future unknown - brighten the night

with your light upon me, bestowed.

Six Long Strings

Six long strings I strum
On this instrument of song
Finding chords which fit the numb
Words reveling feelings I long
What went wrong?

Voice wavering trying to reach
High notes drowned with feeling
What was it you were striving to teach
Whilst my heart you were stealing?
Left me kneeling.

Music is known to heal the soul
Chorus written to repeat
Lyrics sung from a heart’s hole
Strings vibrate with the beat
Song feels so damn incomplete.

Favorite songs drift from speakers
Dialed to a station of memorable tunes
Written by artists and lonely seekers
Tied to drifting balloons
Over heart’s desert dunes.

Songs repeat loudly in my head
Those I’ve written, some I’ve not
All seem to have a familiar thread
Floating notes with a similar plot
Love forever, so I thought.
